Village Green festival, Southend, 12 July 2014

As prerequisite to being on this event – I had to be like everyone else, and buy myself a table.
So I bought a table and and set it up as a beautiful art display gallery. I brought along as varied a selection of artworks as I could find in among my resources… and they sat there all day!

Yet the real interest was again in the record spinning!

Village green festival preparing to spin for the day

Today was the first day I set up with my new assistant – My daughter Radha.

Radha is an artist through and through – right down to the attitude – and she certainly has her father’s enthusiastic approach towards sharing the spinning experience with the public. In the lead up to today’s event, she walked over two miles each day to meet me at the art gallery for a structured formal training on how to do the work and artistic expression with the public. She really did a terrific job this day.
We set up at the end of the makers row, right where people walk past on the way to and from the main stage area.
It was great – people would see the crowd gathered around us and come to look. We were both very busy all day long, and had to turn people away at the end. Even then, people were buying painted records from out of our closed trailer!

Today was a great day and the reception we received, together working with Radha, has totally changed my perception on what I do. I look forward to much more!

Kickstarter…

Hi All.
After a busy two weeks of tearing my hair out, I produced a submission for Kickstarter that was accepted by the site to run for ten days.
Yes, ten days is a very short time to run a campaign, yet as the time is running short, I had to do so in allowing for the 14 day payment period of the project’s administration process.
I have sent around 90 emails, posted on my wall on Fb and witness double figure shares on the Facebook site, yet sadly – to date we are only at around single-figure percent of our way to achieving our goal. I am very grateful for the experienced and humbled by the support I have received yet at the same time, I also can taste the bitterness of disappointment of the unfulfilled dream. Never mind, I have many more beats of my heart and breaths in my lungs before my game is over.

Spin on… the world still does.

Classic Plastic

It is hard to argue that a vinyl LP is definitely up there in being one of our culture’s most classic pieces of plastic.

‘Classic Plastic’ is also the name of a Britpop style band who are just completing their debut EP, ‘Classic Plastic’. The guys approached me about doing an album cover for them early last year, yet time being time and artists being artists, the recording and cover are only in their finalization stages right now.

I was picking through my recent images when I found the first concept for the cover. It is not approved by the rest of the band, so don’t go falling in love with it just yet. I’m just posting to show a little bit of scope in what I do, have done and can do!

Enjoy!

Not bad, eh?

I did play around with surface textures too, allowing the text to be the surface of the record, yet despite the concept being wonderful, the manifestation was a little disappointing.

Well, let’s see how the band likes it! To hear their music, see http://classicplastic.bandcamp.com/
